Join the lab

Work with us

The lab is a mix of neuroscientists, software engineers, data scientists, and legal scholars, from undergraduates to senior staff. We take ideas from anyone, and we expect people to work across those boundaries.

Research assistants

Undergraduates and post-baccalaureates

There are several ways in. Volunteer RAs usually start by attending lab meetings, finding a project they like, and pairing up with a mentor; write to the lab manager for the schedule. Funded routes include UT Research Apprenticeships and Women in Neuroscience.

PhD students

Fall 2027 intake: we are not currently accepting new PhD students.

If you are thinking about a later year, send a CV and a short letter to Franco Pestilli (pestilli@utexas.edu). Students join through the graduate programs in Psychology, Neuroscience, or Computer Science at UT Austin.

Infrastructure software engineer

Join our engineering team

We are looking for a software engineer who knows database systems and cloud platforms well, to build scalable storage and processing for large volumes of neuroscience data. Learn more and apply.

Postdoctoral researchers

Neuroscience, AI, data science, or law and governance

We host postdocs funded through NSF, NIH, and international fellowship programs, and we are glad to help with applications. If your interests match one of our research areas, send a short statement and a CV.

Visiting scientists & interns

Collaborations and summer programs

We host visiting researchers from partner institutions and summer interns through programs such as Women in Neuroscience and the behavioral data science internship. Get in touch early so that there is time to plan a project.
